Erin E. Castellan lives in Western North Carolina. She creates colorful, painterly collages using hand-embroidery, knitting, crochet, and various found and painted fabrics. Erin fully embraces thread and other textile materials as her “paint” and enjoys the expressive range these tactile materials can offer.
Erin’s embroidered paintings have been exhibited at galleries and museums across the United States, including Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, the William King Museum in Abingdon, Virginia, and the State Museum of Pennsylvania. Recently her work was selected to appear in New American Paintings, No. 118.
Erin holds a BFA in Textile Design from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Painting from Indiana University's Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts. She was a 2012-2013 Artist-in-Residence at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts and a 2016 Society for Contemporary Craft LEAP Award finalist.
